Sydney has found a new favorite book for the week: Arthur’s Really Helpful Word Book. It is a big like Richard Scarry’s Best Word Book Ever, in that it has different topics on every double page spread. Sydney loves looking through it and telling me all about the different things she sees. One of her favorite parts of the book is the page that shows all kinds of things Arthur might want to be when he grows up.
Every time she looks at the page, she asks, “What you want to be when you grow up, Mommy?” And I always say, “I am a grown up, Sydney. I am a Mommy!” Of course that didn’t satisfy her, as there was no picture of a Mommy (or Daddy) as a choice of occupation. (That is a separate rant, though). So instead I usually tell her that I want to be a teacher when I grow up, since that is what I used to be.
Sydney wants to be an astronaut. She loves to play games on Starfall and the “A” game shows an astronaut on the moon jumping up and down, so now she thinks that astronauts like to jump. Sounds like a fun job to her!
Audrey wants to be a veterinarian. This is definitely a step up from her future plans at age two, when she really wanted to be a truck driver!
Georgia has clear future plans. The other day she told me, “I want to be a teacher when I grow up, because I love apples and on the first day of school teachers get apples.”
I’m sure there are teachers out there who would share their appple bounty with Georgia!
